Professor, ESSEC Business School; Author, ‘Oui ! La France est un paradis pour entrepreneurs’

Seminar Business life | Friday October 7, 2016 - 9h00 - 11h30

Does one have to be a hero to succeed as an entrepreneur in France? Fabrice Cavarretta does not think so. France has one of the best ecosystems for entrepreneurs who are looking for opportunities. There are many fields of excellence‚ human capital is exceptional and not expensive‚ and there is no lack of money. The equivalent of the Job Centre can even provide a salary for two years to give one enough time to put the finishing touches to one’s project. Of course, bureaucracy, regulations and the cost of work weigh heavily‚ whereas in the Anglo-Saxon world, legal risks entail heavy lawyers’ fees, and the American system seriously taxes people who are successful. In any event‚ being an entrepreneur is difficult everywhere. One must know how to find ways of carrying out one’s project without resorting to PowerPoint spreadsheets and business plans. It is not even in entrepreneurs’ interests to leave France. In the end, success is all about one’s networks, and the best networks exist in one’s own country.
