Making sens out of chaos

Is the role of a theory to comprehensively explain the world, or, more modestly, to cast a new light on what a theory clarifies or refutes? Freud described a society which was crushed by its morals and values as a source of suffering for its population. Today, however, it seems that we suffer more from the effects of an individualism which has no boundaries or benchmarks, either in our personal lives, in democratic life or in economic and financial sectors. In their second book on this subject, a banker and an economist who were struck by the possible analogy with the Freudian model explore the obscure links between individual and group functions.
