The school for the economy of conventions arose from the collaboration of research workers from various backgrounds who were determined to be receptive to a multidisciplinary approach in which not only sociology, law and management, but also philosophy could be included. They queried a number of ideas accepted by orthodox economic theory, especially the rationality and interactions in the system. This school replaces optimisation and balance by controversy and judgment.
