The shortage of computer scientists is prompting Swiss companies to subcontract their important projects. TCS, an Indian company, is benefiting from this situation by offering offshore developments. This prevents Switzerland inflating its permanent computer scientist workforce and limits the number of work permits. However, does it not promote the emergence of competition from countries with low salaries and technical skills which, according to certain people, risk destabilising industrial countries with high standards of living ?
