Directeur de l’European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) à l’European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD)

Seminar How to teach management (Gresup) | Tuesday February 27, 2001

For its last session, GRESUP invited Gordon Shenton to speak. He is the professor at the EM Lyon (Lyon Business School) as well as the director, since its creation, of the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS), the European body responsible for accreditation of management training courses. He shared with us his experience of assessing numerous European institutions with respect to their management teaching. His analysis showed the difficulties involved in accreditation, especially in the assessment of the degree of internationalisation of a course. How does one proceed beyond the initial description of the programme, and also measure the suitability of a training course to prepare its students for work in foreign companies and in multinational teams ? Gordon Shenton demonstrates the value of a global approach with regards to assessment. He also presents an appraisal of the European system of management training and indicates what still remains to be done.
