Competitiveness clusters were launched in 2004. They led to a strong nationwide reaction. Medicen is a world centre devoted to new technologies for the health sector, drug companies and new therapies. It is located in the Île-de-France region near Paris which is a leading area in Europe in terms of the density of its research laboratories in the pharmaceutics industry and its clinical research which brings together the greatest number of researchers. The region is also well placed for biotechnologies and medical equipment. The Île-de-France region has the best hospital network in Europe and possesses all the necessary elements to become the leading European cluster for therapeutic innovation. Research workers, universities and manufacturers must continue to work together so that our region gains competitiveness, attractiveness and a reputation on a global level in the health and pharmaceutical sectors. All manufacturers in the pharmaceutical industry, medical imaging and biotechnologies think it is essential to be located in our region.
