How does one attract the important international leaders in the car industry when one is small, alone, in poor health and, moreover, French ? When Noël Goutard took over the presidency of Valéo in 1987, it was not certain that his venture would succeed. Over a six week period, with a company which was failing economically, he took decisions to reassure clients and share-holders, and embarked on a strategy of accelerated internationalisation. Six years later, he had achieved the desired result. Other challenges then appeared which were equally risky.
