Maud ORTUN

Chief cabin stewardess, Air France

Seminar Social life | Thursday February 12, 2004

The role of a chief cabin stewardess is to ensure cabin security, to provide quality client service and to contribute to the management of crisis situations by deferring responsibility to the captain. In practical terms, this involves a wide knowledge, not only of flying regulations and first aid, but also a great deal of savoir-faire, whether it is in terms of organising work, knowing how the equipment works, or even managing difficult situations. Finally, the work schedule of a long-distance stewardess is hard because she has to work up to twenty-one hours non-stop, fourteen of which are in the air. How does one manage to keep an eye on everything when one cannot afford to make mistakes ? Twenty years of experience have allowed Maud Ortun to reveal the secrets of life on board a passenger aeroplane which is a masterpiece of organisation.
