The Goutte d'Or area of Paris is characterised by a long history of steady immigration and a population which has suffered social and economic difficulties. However, thanks to this area’s strong identity and the fact that it is home to a number of associations, it is a true mixture of people trying to find solutions to important social problems. For more than twenty-five years and against a background of social change, the ‘Accueil Goutte d'Or’ community centre has been working to make the area’s inhabitants more independent and socially integrated. It has encouraged them to act in a civic way in order to help general development in the Goutte d'Or. The results have been remarkable despite being relatively unknown.
