The Puy du Fou historical theme park celebrated its fortieth birthday in 2017. It is the second largest theme park in France in terms of numbers of visitors, and is unique in many respects. Its story is very closely linked to that of the region in which it is situated. It has an army of 3,800 volunteers from the Vendée region who help to put on the park’s various shows which trace the history of the region. Unlike many other parks, from the very beginning Puy du Fou decided to make original creations designed entirely by its own teams, and never hesitated to use the most up-to-date technologies. The park grew step by step, reinvesting its profits throughout the years in shows which were increasingly spectacular. It gained international recognition winning the prize for the best entertainment park in the world in 2012, and, in 2017, the best show in the world for ‘Le Dernier panache’. This success has been the result of its boundless – and very reasonable – creativity.
